Abstract

Los pacientes con síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo ocupan gran atención en la unidad de cuidados intensivos. El decúbito prono (DP) tiene un sustento bibliográfico sumamente robusto para su utilización en esta población, y varios ensayos clínicos randomizados han demostrado el efecto del mismo sobre la oxigenación medida a través de la relación PaO2/FIO2 e incluso su impacto en el aumento de la sobrevida.Este ha demostrado ser una maniobra útil y accesible para la mayor parte de las UCIs y su implementación, realizada de manera protocolizada y por personal entrenado, debería ser considerada en un grupo selecto de pacientes los cuales se beneficiarían en términos de mortalidad. En la Argentina pareciera que muchos profesionales han decidido implementar la maniobra en sus lugares de trabajo, encontrando durante la misma un bajo porcentaje de complicaciones.
