Resumen
El 31 de diciembre de 2019, China notificó la detección de un nuevo beta coronavirus. Primero fue denominado coronavirus novedoso 2019 (2019-nCov), luego se lo identificó como SARS-Cov-2 y se definió la enfermedad causada por coronavirus 2019 como COVID-19. Posteriormente fueron reportados casos en varios países de distintos continentes. La evolución de este brote motivó a la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declarar la emergencia de salud pública a nivel internacional. Con el crecimiento de la enfermedad en una gran cantidad de países, el 11 de marzo de 2020 el director general de la OMS estableció el estado de pandemia.
