Abstract
Technological advances have been and continue to be implemented in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at a rapid pace. However, these advances in methods of attention and treatment, from a bioethical perspective, not only can present moral dilemmas within the ICUs, but also open the door to distinct forms of palliative care which can help ensure the dignity and wishes of the patient. This article reviews forms of patient attention in ICUs and palliative care from a bioethical perspective, principally in the Latin American health sector. Furthermore to conclude, reflect upon different forms of care and treatment that are considered to be in the interests of the patient and their families.
