Abstract

Aspergillus genus were firstly describe by Micheli in 1729 in Florence1. Actually there are more than 250 species described as a result of the improvement in molecular characterization techniques. A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. terreus and A. niger are the species with more risk of invasive infection1. Traditionally, several conditions related to immunocompromised hosts have been considered risk factors of fungal invasive infection (prolonged neutropenia, transplant, inherited immunodeficiency syndromes, immunosuppressant or corticosteroid therapy, hematologic tumors and graft-versus-host disease)2,3. However, there are increasingly described invasive fungal infections in immunocompetent patients4-8. Here we present the case of a patient admitted to the ICU with severe Influenza A infection (H1N1 2009 variant) and concomitant invasive pulmonary aspergillosis.
