Update on intra-abdominal infections. Intensive care management
Main Article Content
Abstract
Intra-abdominal infections represent an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Its management requires a multidisciplinary approach that involves intensive care physicians and a surgical team. Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections involves both antimicrobial therapy and surgical control of the focus. The choice of antimicrobial should be based on both the severity of the infection and the risk factors for resistant pathogens, local flora, and individual history.
When presented with sepsis and septic shock, mortality increases up to 60%. Carrying out an adequate and early diagnosis and treatment are the fundamental pillars to improve results
